Approach
Navigating through the world comes with inherent challenges, and sometimes what we’re seeking for support is more than what our friends or family can provide. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic space where you can show up as you are, feel seen and heard, and together, we co-create the helpful way forward.
My therapeutic approach is integrative, trauma-informed, and social justice oriented. We know trauma, no matter the age it occurs, can leave a lasting impact on our mental and physical health and spiritual wellbeing, and that’s why I offer trauma-informed counselling that integrates somatic psychotherapy techniques. This approach recognizes the connection between the mind and body and helps to process and release traumatic experiences in a safe and supportive environment. Our work together will mindfully move at the pace that is right for you, honour your lived experiences, and move towards an authentic and sustainable reconnection to self.
Experience
I completed the Master in Counselling (MC) program from the University of Calgary and previous to that I completed a 3-year Somatic Experiencing Professional (SEP) training. My undergraduate degree in humanities is from the University of Victoria.
For over a decade I worked in the non-profit sector supporting women-identified survivors of violence, trauma, and abuse to reclaim their lives and move towards financial self-sufficiency. I also spent many years supporting individuals in career transition who were struggling with various barriers to employment. More recently I have been supporting post-secondary students of varying ages and cultural backgrounds to navigate the complexity of life as a student. My work in the post-secondary sector also focuses on sexualized violence prevention and response, and I have a particular interest in supporting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
About Me
Outside of work I enjoy spending quality time with my daughter and loved ones, exploring nature, swimming in lakes, walking in forests, and practicing yoga. I am a lifelong Vancouver Islander and grew up in Campbell River, the traditional lands of the Kwakwaka'wakw peoples. I have been privileged to live, work, and play on lək̓ʷəŋən territory for 25 years.
