Approach
My approach to counselling is centred around creating a safe and non-judgemental space for clients to explore issues and challenges that are important to them. I value the therapeutic relationship as an important aspect of counselling, which is fostered through collaboration with the client. I believe that past experience informs how we conceptualize ourselves, others and the world around us and therefore it is important to look at the impacts of developmentally significant stages in our lives. I utilize practices from cognitive behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy and polyvagal informed therapy in order to develop strategies aimed at improved functioning and overall wellbeing.
Experience
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Victoria and a Master’s of Art in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I have a passion for life long learning and continue to participate in education and training related to my profession. My background involves working with newcomers to Canada and survivors of intimate partner violence. This experience has allowed me to become knowledgeable about community resources and systems related to support, which has been beneficial in my work as a counsellor.
About Me
I was born and raised on Vancouver Island where I currently live with my children and our two cats. I spent ten years living in Italy, which was a signficant experience that allowed me to grow and get out of my comfort zone. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my children, connecting with friends, travel, reading and doing yoga.
